Finished the Rack setup after Xmas.

I've had the SMC switch for a while, along with the Furman Power Conditioner, but the Sun Netras are new (well, old -- but new to me!). Picked up 3 Netra X1s on eBay for around $30/each. 1 was essentially DOA, so I gutted it and threw a Mini-ITX Via Epia board in there with a 40GB HDD.

The first box of three is the Via Mini-ITX Home-built server, running CentOS 5.3 currently, but I'll probably be going back to Debian soon. It's got a 1GHz Via C3 CPU, 512MB of DDR400 RAM, a 40GB IDE HDD, and will soon have a couple of 250GB USB External HDDs connected to it for storage, which will live on the rack shelf above.

The second box is a Sun Netra X1, running Solaris 10, with a 400MHz UltraSPARC IIe CPU, 1.5 GB of PC133 ECC RAM, a 40GB OS drive, and an 80GB drive for storage, etc.

The third is a Sun Netra X1, running OpenBSD 4.6, with a 500MHz UltraSPARC IIe CPU, 1.25 GB of PC133 ECC RAM, and a 40GB HDD.

It all connects to my Linksys WRT54G, running DD-WRT v24, via Ethernet, which handles DHCP, etc. (until I can get the OpenBSD box setup to do all of that), wireless for my laptops, phone, etc., and acts as a gateway -- connecting to the cable modem.

The newly installed racks on a Gallery car. Caltrain are testing these new racks to see how they work out and they're taking feedback from bike car users.

What do you think of these racks? They're shorter to comply with FRA regulations so that they don't get in the way of the window emergency exit.

Some possible concerns I've heard from others: Lower racks might scratch the frames more easily, and they might not hold the bikes up so well.

I'm on the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition Caltrain working group so please let me know what you think. Are there any problems with this rack?
